India Finalizes Oil and Gas Deal with Mauritius

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has announced that India is nearing the finalization of an agreement to supply oil and gas to Mauritius. This move aims to bolster energy security in the region, particularly amid the ongoing crisis in West Asia. Speaking in Port Louis, Dr Jaishankar highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships in the energy sector during these uncertain times.

The minister also expressed his satisfaction over an Indian public sector enterprise working on Mauritius’ first floating solar power project. He emphasized the growing collaboration between India and Mauritius in clean energy and environmentally friendly solutions.

Additionally, Minister Jaishankar shared his excitement about delivering the final batch of electric buses to Mauritius. This initiative is expected to enhance sustainable public transport and reduce carbon emissions.

Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mauritius last year, Dr Jaishankar noted that both nations agreed to elevate their bilateral ties to an “Enhanced Strategic Partnership.” He is currently in Mauritius for the 9th Indian Ocean Conference.
