India, Germany Deepen Ties in Defence, Trade

India and Germany have announced several new initiatives in areas such as defence, trade, and technology, marking a new phase in their relationship. The announcements were made after a high-level meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

To strengthen defence cooperation, the two countries signed a declaration that focuses on joint development and joint production of defence equipment. This step is expected to boost defence industrial ties and increase cooperation between companies from both nations.

Prime Minister Modi said that India and Germany are not just trade partners, but countries that share a commitment to global peace and stability. He highlighted the strong economic relationship, noting that trade between the two countries has crossed a record 50 billion dollars. He added that the partnership is future-oriented, especially in areas like green energy and advanced technology.

Mr. Modi also said that both countries stand united in the fight against terrorism, calling it a serious threat to humanity. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that stronger military cooperation, including more joint naval and air force exercises, will help India reduce its dependence on a limited number of defence suppliers. He said these steps show the growing trust and strength of the India-Germany partnership.
