“India, Global Envoys Discuss Film Collaboration at IFFI”
The 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) entered its second day today.
In Panaji, Goa, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan
led the Ambassadors’ Round Table on Co-production. During the meeting,
participants discussed ways to stop film piracy, increase international film
co-productions, and promote Indian movies at global film festivals.
Dr. Murugan said India is becoming an important centre for filmmaking and called
for more co-production with other countries. He noted that India’s media and
entertainment sector is expected to grow to over 31 billion dollars in the next
ten years. He explained that co-productions can help bring more international
films to Indian audiences, including the large Indian diaspora around the world.
He also spoke about the need to fight piracy and said the roundtable could help
improve talent exchange, technology, anti-piracy strategies, film production
across borders, and cultural representation.
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sanjay Jaju also encouraged more
international partnerships to develop the media and entertainment industry.
He said India now has world-class studios and strong VFX technology, which can
support all the filmmaking needs of international studios and filmmakers.
Ambassadors from Togo, Morocco, Ireland, Cuba, Australia, Nepal, Israel, Guyana,
and Côte d’Ivoire attended the event.
