India Joins BRICS Industrial Competencies Centre
India has joined the BRICS Centre for Industrial Competencies (BCIC) to provide better support to manufacturing companies and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across BRICS countries. India officially became part of the centre at an event organised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in New Delhi.
The move is expected to help Indian industries improve their productivity, skills, and technology. It will also create more opportunities for cooperation with other BRICS nations — Brazil, Russia, China, and South Africa.
The Commerce and Industry Ministry said that the National Productivity Council (NPC) has been chosen as the India Centre for BRICS Industrial Competencies. The NPC will lead India’s activities and coordination with the BCIC. It will focus on training, capacity building, and helping companies adopt modern and advanced manufacturing methods.
Through this platform, Indian businesses, especially MSMEs, can get guidance, technical support, and share knowledge with industries in other BRICS countries. This is expected to make Indian companies more competitive in the global market.
The BCIC was launched in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Its main goal is to promote industrial innovation, modernisation, and cooperation among member countries. It also aims to help industries grow sustainably and use new technologies.
Officials said that India’s participation will strengthen its manufacturing sector and support the government’s efforts to boost industrial development and job creation.
