India Protects Key Sectors in U.S. Trade Pact
Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal has said that India has always taken a careful and clear approach while negotiating trade agreements, especially in sectors that are very sensitive and important for the country.
He explained that during trade talks, India makes sure to protect key areas such as agriculture, small industries, and other sectors that support a large number of people. These sectors are handled with extra caution so that the interests of Indian businesses and workers are not harmed.
Speaking about the interim trade agreement with the United States, Agrawal said that India has successfully safeguarded all its important sectors. He added that the government did not make any compromises that could negatively affect the country’s core interests.
The Commerce Secretary also said that officials from both India and the U.S. are now working closely to turn their joint statement into a formal legal agreement. Teams from both sides are discussing the details and finalising the terms.
He expressed confidence that the agreement will be completed soon and is likely to be signed before the end of March.
According to officials, the trade pact is expected to strengthen economic ties between the two countries, increase trade opportunities, and support businesses on both sides, while still protecting India’s sensitive sectors.
