India Rising as a Global Electro-Tech Manufacturing Leader
India is quickly becoming a global leader in electro-tech manufacturing by using its cheap solar power and advanced battery technology. Unlike other countries like Western nations and China, which rely heavily on fossil fuels, India is taking a different path that could serve as a model for other emerging economies.
Solar energy now makes up about 9% of India’s electricity, while coal use per person is much lower than in China at a similar stage. Oil demand remains low and isn’t expected to grow significantly. This shift is especially noticeable in transportation, where electric vehicles (EVs) make up nearly 5% of total car sales, and electric three-wheelers dominate the market with almost 60% share, making India a global leader in this segment.
As India’s electricity use grows, solar power combined with storage systems is now about half as cheap as building new coal plants, driving a surge in manufacturing. The country’s electronics industry has grown six times to $130 billion, supporting growth in solar panels, batteries, and EVs. India also produces 120 gigawatts of solar modules and 18 gigawatts of solar cells.
By building strong supply chains, India is positioning itself to become a major global supplier of electro-tech products.
