India Tops Vote in IMO Council Elections
India has been chosen again to be on the Council of the International Maritime
Organisation (IMO) for 2026–27. It received the highest number of votes in the
election held yesterday during the 34th IMO Assembly in London.
India got 154 out of 169 valid votes in the group of ten countries that play
the biggest role in international sea trade.
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, said he was
very happy with this result and called it a proud moment for India’s shipping
sector.
