India-US Trade Deal Boosts Bilateral Relations

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said that the recent India–US trade deal is an important and historic step that will strengthen the relationship between the two countries. He said the agreement will also support India’s long-term goal of becoming a developed nation, or “Viksit Bharat”, by the year 2047.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Mr Goyal explained that India has carefully protected its interests while negotiating the trade deal. He said special attention was given to sensitive sectors like agriculture and dairy, which are very important for farmers and small producers in the country. According to him, these sectors have been safeguarded and will not be negatively affected by the agreement.

The Minister also said that on February 2 this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump had a phone conversation. They discussed several bilateral and global issues, including trade and economic cooperation between the two nations.

Following these talks, President Trump announced a reduction in tariffs on Indian exports to the United States. Mr Goyal said this new rate is lower than the tariffs imposed on many other countries.

He added that this reduction will help Indian goods become more competitive and affordable in the US market. As a result, Indian exporters may see higher demand, leading to increased trade, more business opportunities, and job creation.

The government believes that the trade deal will boost economic growth, improve cooperation between India and the US, and open new doors for industries and exporters in both countries.
