Indian Railways Spends 80 Percent Of Capital Budget

Indian Railways has used over 80% of its capital budget in the first three quarters of the current financial year. The Ministry of Railways said that by the end of December 2025, Indian Railways had spent ₹2,03,138 crore out of the total ₹2,52,200 crore Gross Budgetary Support.

The Ministry added that this spending has mainly focused on safety improvements, increasing capacity, modernising infrastructure, and enhancing passenger facilities.

According to the Ministry, consistent capital spending over the last 10 years has led to several important initiatives, including:

Launch of 164 Vande Bharat train services

Launch of 30 Amrit Bharat train services

Implementation of the Kavach automatic train protection system

Electrification of over 99% of the broad-gauge network

Major works on new railway lines, gauge conversions, and track doubling

Upgrades to traffic facilities, investments in public sector units, and metro transport systems

These investments show Indian Railways’ commitment to modernising the network and improving passenger convenience and safety across the country.
