“India’s Textile Sector Doubles in Ten Years”
The Indian textiles sector has seen strong growth over the past ten years and has become one of the largest job-creating industries in the country.
The size of the sector has nearly doubled, growing from ₹8.4 lakh crore in 2014 to around ₹16 lakh crore today. This growth has helped provide employment to millions of people across India.
Speaking at the 74th India International Garment Fair (IIGF) in New Delhi, Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh said that the domestic market has also expanded significantly. It increased from ₹6 lakh crore to ₹13 lakh crore in 2025, showing strong demand within the country.
He also said that exports have risen by more than 25% since the COVID-19 pandemic, which reflects the growing global demand for Indian textile and garment products.
The minister added that the steady growth of the textiles industry is boosting the economy and creating more opportunities for workers, manufacturers, and exporters.
