INS Mahe Commissioned as New Navy Warship

The Indian Navy today commissioned INS Mahe, the first ship in the new
Mahe-class small anti-submarine ships, at the Naval
Dockyard in Mumbai. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi attended the ceremony
as the chief guest. This marks an important step in adding a new generation of
Indian-made shallow-water defence ships to the Navy.

INS Mahe was built by Cochin Shipyard Limited and shows India’s growing strength
in shipbuilding under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) mission.
The ship has more than 80% Indian-made parts, proving the country’s progress in
warship design, construction, and technology. It will help protect India’s
coastline and act as a “Silent Hunter” on the Western Coast.

During the event, General Upendra Dwivedi said that the real strength of the
Armed Forces comes from working together. He explained that the Indian Army is
carrying out several reforms to improve teamwork and coordination among the
forces.

He mentioned that Operation Sindoor — India’s military action against terror
camps in Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack — was a clear example of how
the Army, Navy, and Air Force can work jointly. He added that India’s power to
act from the deep sea to the highest mountains will shape the country’s future
security.
