INS Tarangini Arrives in Trincomalee for Training

Sail Training Ship INS Tarangini of the Indian Navy reached Trincomalee today as part of India’s maritime outreach programme called ‘Bridges of Friendship’. The programme aims to improve naval cooperation and strengthen friendly ties between India and Sri Lanka.

The ship is commanded by Commander Nitin Gajjar. It is a three-masted sailing vessel and is currently returning from Visakhapatnam, where it took part in the International Fleet Review 2026.

During its stay in Trincomalee, INS Tarangini will take on board three officers and 25 trainee officers from the Sri Lanka Navy. They will receive practical training in ocean sailing and seamanship. The training will cover both harbour activities and sailing exercises at sea, giving them hands-on experience in handling a traditional sailing ship.

The visit is expected to strengthen professional cooperation between the two navies and provide valuable learning opportunities for young officers. After completing its activities in Trincomalee, the ship will continue its voyage as part of its training mission.
