IPL 2026: Punjab Kings’ Strong Start
Kolkata (West Bengal), April 6 (ANI): After finishing as runners-up last season, Punjab Kings have started IPL 2026 with two consecutive wins. Their spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule believes a positive team environment is key to their early success.
Speaking ahead of their match against Kolkata Knight Riders, Bahutule highlighted the team’s steady approach and strong internal culture. “The environment has been great since last year, and we’re moving forward slowly but steadily,” he said.
Bahutule also praised the Impact Player rule, which allows an extra player to showcase his skills. He believes it adds depth to the game by giving all-rounders more opportunities.
Reflecting on the coaching team, Bahutule spoke about the collaborative environment led by Ricky Ponting, with support from Brad Haddin and James Hopes. “They are fantastic coaches. Working under Ricky has been a great experience,” he added.
Cooper Connolly, a 22-year-old Australian all-rounder, has stood out for Punjab Kings so far. He scored a match-winning 72 on his IPL debut and followed it up with another crucial innings. Bahutule credited Ponting’s faith in him during the auction.
Captain Shreyas Iyer was also praised by Bahutule, who believes the right-hander has the qualities to lead at the highest level. “Shreyas is a great leader with the right temperament,” he said.
Punjab Kings will face Kolkata Knight Riders next at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Bahutule hopes they can continue their winning streak and build on their strong start to the season.
