IPL 2026: Shubman Gill Fined ₹12 Lakh for Slow Over-Rate vs DC
Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill was fined ₹12 lakh after his team was found to have bowled slowly during their IPL 2026 match against Delhi Capitals (DC). This is Gill’s first offence of the season.
The IPL stated that Gill was penalized under Article 2.22 of its Code of Conduct, which deals with slow over-rate offences. Since it was GT’s first offence this season, Gill faced a fine of ₹12 lakh.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shreyas Iyer also received a similar penalty for maintaining a slow over-rate earlier in the season. His fine doubled to ₹24 lakh after his team repeated the offence. If Gill’s team is found to have bowled slowly again, he could face a similar punishment.
Under IPL rules, teams must finish their innings within 90 minutes of the start time. GT failed to meet this deadline during their match against DC, leading to Gill’s fine.
In the match, Gujarat Titans edged out Delhi Capitals by one run in New Delhi. Despite setting a target of 211, DC struggled after losing quick wickets and missed opportunities. Pathum Nissanka (41) and KL Rahul (92) contributed significantly for DC, but their chase fell short by one run.
Gujarat Titans will next face Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026 on Sunday.
