Iran Protests Enter 13th Day Nationwide

Iran is facing its most serious protests since 2022, with demonstrations now entering their 13th day. The protests have spread to major cities and small towns across the country.

The unrest began because of a falling currency (rial) and rising prices, which have made daily life very difficult for people. Over time, the protests have turned into wider political protests against the authorities.

In several places, markets and bazaars have been closed. There have also been clashes between security forces and protesters in cities such as Tehran, Isfahan, and parts of western and northeastern Iran.

Human rights groups say that at least 39 people have died, and more than 2,000 people have been arrested so far. Internet monitoring groups report that internet services have been partially disrupted, which they believe is due to government action. Iranian officials have confirmed that some security personnel were also injured or killed, but they have not shared full details about the situation.

The latest protests have gained momentum after exiled former crown prince Reza Pahlavi called on people to hold nightly protests and chant slogans together. Many people responded to his call, gathering in several neighbourhoods of Tehran and in other cities across Iran.
