IYC President Arrested Over AI Summit Protest
A court in Delhi on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, sent Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president Uday Bhanu Chib to four days of police custody. The order was passed in connection with a protest held during the India AI Impact Summit.
Judicial Magistrate Ravi granted the police permission to keep Chib in custody for four days for questioning. The police said they need time to investigate his alleged role in organising and leading the protest at the event.
During the AI Summit, members of the Indian Youth Congress staged a demonstration inside the venue. As part of the protest, some members removed their shirts to display T-shirts underneath that carried anti-Modi and anti-Central government slogans. The protest reportedly caused disruption at the event.
Police had earlier detained several protesters and later sought custody of Chib for further investigation. The court agreed to the request after hearing arguments from both sides.
The case is being investigated to determine the extent of Chib’s involvement and whether any laws were violated during the protest. Further legal proceedings are expected after the custody period ends.
