Kabul Hospital Airstrike Kills Hundreds, Pakistan Denies
At least 400 people were killed in a reported airstrike on a drug rehabilitation hospital in Kabul late on Monday, according to officials from Taliban authorities in Afghanistan. Deputy government spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat said that around 250 more people were injured when the strike hit the large hospital at about 9 pm local time. The hospital, which had around 2,000 beds, suffered heavy damage, with large parts of the building destroyed.
However, Pakistan denied carrying out the attack. Officials there rejected the claims and said that no hospital in Kabul had been targeted.
After the incident, rescue teams were quickly sent to the scene. According to Fitrat, emergency workers tried to control the fire and search through the damaged building to find survivors and recover bodies. The situation was difficult, as parts of the structure had collapsed and flames were still burning.
Videos shared by local media on social media platform X showed security personnel working in the dark using flashlights. They were seen carrying bodies out of the damaged building, while firefighters struggled to put out the fire among the debris.
The incident has raised serious concerns, but there is still confusion over what exactly happened, as both sides are giving different accounts of the event.
