Kanimozhi Slams Centre Over Hindi Imposition Row

DMK Member of Parliament and Deputy General Secretary Kanimozhi on Thursday accused the Central government of forcing Hindi on people in Tamil Nadu.

She shared a photo of a railway station nameboard in Chennai and said that the English name had been replaced with Hindi. She claimed this was another attempt to impose Hindi in the State.

Posting on social media platform X, Kanimozhi said the problem of Hindi imposition has been going on for many years. She referred to the historic Kallakudi protest against Hindi and said the issue still continues today.

“It started in Kallakudi and continues to Chennai Park. They are not going to stop imposing it, and we are not going to stop opposing it,” she wrote.

She said Tamil Nadu has always opposed forcing any language on its people. According to her, people should have the freedom to use their own language, and no language should be made compulsory.

The issue has once again created a political debate. The DMK and some other parties said Tamil and English should be given importance in the State, and Hindi should not be forced on the people.

So far, the Central government has not responded to these allegations.
