Karnataka Congress Nears Halfway Mark Amid Leadership Talk

The Congress government in Karnataka, led by Chief Minister
Siddaramaiah, will complete half of its five-year term on 20 November.
Recently, there has been a lot of talk about who should be the next
chief minister. Leaders who support Siddaramaiah and those who
support Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar have been openly
backing their preferred leader.
After the 2023 Assembly elections, there were reports of a deal
between the two—called a “rotational chief minister” formula—where
Shivakumar would become chief minister halfway through the term.
But the Congress has never confirmed this. Both Siddaramaiah and
Shivakumar keep saying that only the party high command can decide
on leadership changes.
For now, it seems unlikely that the chief minister will be changed.
Once the rumours about a “November revolution” fade, attention
will likely shift to the younger Congress leaders who could take
over in the future, after Siddaramaiah.
As the government reaches its halfway point, South First looks
at some of the leaders who may play a big role in shaping the
Congress’s future in Karnataka.
