Karnataka Considers Law to Curb Caste Killings

The Karnataka government is considering bringing in a strict new law to prevent killings linked to caste issues. The proposed law may be named after 20-year-old Manya Patil, who was brutally murdered in December 2025 in Inamveerpur village near Hubballi.

Manya Patil, who was seven months pregnant, was allegedly attacked and killed by her own family for marrying a man from another caste. The incident shocked the state and renewed calls for stronger laws to stop caste-based violence.

Social Welfare Minister H.C. Mahadevappa met the family of Manya’s husband, Vivekananda Doddamani, on Thursday, January 1. After the meeting, he said the government would study the possibility of introducing a tough law to deal with caste killings in the upcoming legislative session.

The minister said he would discuss the proposal with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G. Parameshwara. He also said steps would be taken to ensure proper security for the Doddamani family.

The government hopes that a strong legal framework will help prevent such tragic incidents in the future and provide better protection to couples who marry outside their caste.
