Karnataka MLA Seeks Allowance for Women Marrying Farmers
In a unique proposal, HD Ranganath, MLA from Kunigal, has written to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah requesting the state government to introduce a special allowance for women who marry men living in villages and working in agriculture.
In his letter dated February 18, Ranganath said that many young men who depend on farming remain unmarried even after the age of 30. He pointed out that several women are hesitant to marry into rural families where agriculture is the main source of income. According to him, this social trend is creating difficulties for farming families and affecting rural communities.
The MLA suggested that the government should provide a financial incentive or special status to women who choose to marry farmers and live in villages. He believes such a step could encourage more marriages in rural areas and help support the agricultural sector.
Ranganath has urged the state government to discuss this proposal during the upcoming Assembly session. He said the idea is aimed at strengthening rural society and ensuring that farming families receive better social and economic support.
The proposal has sparked discussions among political leaders and the public, with many expressing different views on whether such an allowance would be practical or effective.
