Kerala Assembly Polls Set for Three-Way Fight

With only a few months left for the Kerala Assembly elections, political parties in the state have stepped up their preparations. The ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) is aiming to return to power for a third consecutive term by running a careful and relatively conservative campaign, highlighting its governance record and welfare schemes.

On the other hand, the United Democratic Front (UDF), led by the Congress, has launched an aggressive campaign. The Congress began its election preparations early and is banking on anti-incumbency and public dissatisfaction after ten years of Left rule to win back power in the state.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also preparing for a strong contest. After steadily increasing its presence in Kerala over the past decade, the party is now planning an ambitious campaign to expand its influence. The BJP hopes to emerge as a key power broker in the next Assembly by increasing its seat count.

As the 2026 Assembly polls draw closer, all three major political fronts are positioning themselves for what is expected to be a closely fought election. The outcome could significantly change Kerala’s political landscape, ending or extending a decade of uninterrupted Left rule.
