The Beach Games are being organised by the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. The competitions will be held from January 5 to January 10, under the technical supervision of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and various national sports federations.
Athletes will compete in eight different sports during the Games. Out of these, six will be medal events: Beach Soccer, Beach Volleyball, Beach Sepak Takraw, Beach Kabaddi, Pencak Silat, and Open Water Swimming. Two sports — Mallakhamb and Tug of War — will be held as non-medal events.
Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said that the Khelo India Beach Games reflect Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building a strong sporting culture in the country. He said the initiative aims to encourage young people to take up sports and lead healthy lives.
The event is expected to boost sports development and also promote tourism in Diu, with athletes and visitors enjoying the scenic beach setting along with high-level competition.
