Kim Jong Un Signals Continued Missile Development

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has said that the country will continue to develop missiles over the next five years. He made these comments while visiting major weapons and munitions factories in the last quarter of 2025, according to a report by state media KCNA on Friday (December 26, 2025).

During his visits, Mr. Kim reviewed missile and shell production facilities and discussed future plans for strengthening the country’s defence capabilities. KCNA said he stressed that the missile and ammunition production sector plays a key role in boosting North Korea’s war deterrence.

Mr. Kim also reportedly called for increased production and improved technology to meet the country’s long-term military goals. He said strong defence capabilities are necessary to protect national security and counter external threats.

The remarks come at a time of rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula, with North Korea continuing to focus on expanding its weapons programmes despite international criticism and sanctions.
