Lok Sabha Adjourned After Opposition Protest
The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day after Opposition members created a protest over several issues. The disruption stopped the House from carrying out its normal business.
When the House met again at 12 noon after the first adjournment, members of the Opposition parties, including the Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), and DMK, came into the well of the House and shouted slogans against the government. Their protest caused noise and confusion inside the chamber.
The Presiding Officer repeatedly asked the members to return to their seats and allow the House to function smoothly. He urged them not to disturb the proceedings. Despite these requests, the protests continued.
Amid the uproar, some Ministers managed to table official papers related to their ministries. However, the continuous disruption made it impossible to carry out further discussions.
As the situation did not improve even after several appeals, the Chair adjourned the House for the entire day. Because of this, the scheduled discussion on the Union Budget 2026–27 could not take place.
Earlier in the morning, when the Lok Sabha first assembled, Speaker Om Birla had tried to begin the Question Hour. But the Opposition members started shouting slogans at that time as well, leading to the first adjournment.
