Madhya Kailash Flyover to Open in February

People travelling through Adyar, Guindy and the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) may soon get relief from heavy traffic at the busy Madhya Kailash junction. The long-awaited L-shaped flyover is likely to open in the first week of February.

The Madhya Kailash junction is one of the most crowded traffic points in Chennai. Thousands of vehicles pass through this area every day, especially during peak office hours. This often leads to long traffic jams and delays for commuters.

To reduce congestion, the state highways department has been building a flyover at the junction. The project, which costs around Rs 60 crore, aims to help vehicles move faster and avoid signals at the intersection.

However, the work was delayed for several months due to two major problems. One issue was the construction of the central girder at the busy Sardar Patel Road–OMR intersection. The second was building an approach road on Sardar Patel Road to connect vehicles smoothly to the flyover.

Officials have now completed both these difficult tasks. With these bottlenecks cleared, the remaining work is moving quickly, and the flyover is almost ready to be opened to the public.

Once opened, the flyover is expected to reduce travel time, ease traffic congestion, and make daily commutes smoother for motorists travelling between Adyar, Guindy, and OMR.

Commuters are hopeful that the new flyover will bring much-needed relief to one of the city’s most problematic traffic spots.
