Moderate Fog Reduces Visibility in Chennai, Districts

Several districts across the State are likely to continue experiencing moderate fog and mist throughout the week. Weather officials say the dry winter conditions are expected to last until mid-February.

On Monday morning, many interior and northern parts of the State saw foggy weather. Chennai city and its surrounding areas were also covered with mist and light fog. Because of this, visibility was low in some places during the early hours of the day.

People travelling in the morning faced some difficulty as the fog made it hard to see clearly on roads and highways. Motorists had to drive slowly and carefully to avoid accidents. In a few areas, traffic movement was slightly affected due to poor visibility.

According to weather experts, the current dry and cool winter pattern is the reason for the fog formation. During the night, temperatures drop and moisture in the air condenses near the ground, leading to mist and fog in the early morning. As the sun rises, the fog usually clears up.

Officials said there is no major rainfall expected over the next few days. The weather is likely to remain dry, with cool mornings and slightly warm afternoons.

Residents have been advised to be cautious while travelling early in the morning, especially on highways and open areas where fog can be thicker. The conditions are expected to continue in several districts until mid-February.
