Modi, Carney Hold Strategic Talks in Delhi
Delegation-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney are currently taking place at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. The meeting is an important step in strengthening ties between India and Canada.
During the talks, both leaders are reviewing the progress made so far under the India-Canada Strategic Partnership. They are discussing cooperation in several important areas such as trade and investment, energy, critical minerals, agriculture, education, research, innovation, and people-to-people relations.
The two Prime Ministers are also expected to exchange views on important regional and global issues. These discussions aim to improve understanding and cooperation on international matters.
Prime Minister Carney is on a four-day visit to India, which began on the 27th of last month. He assumed office in March last year and this is his first full bilateral visit to India as Prime Minister.
Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Prime Minister Carney in New Delhi. In a post on social media, Dr. Jaishankar said he appreciated the Canadian leader’s commitment to building a forward-looking and stronger partnership between the two countries.
The visit is seen as an opportunity to deepen cooperation and open new areas of collaboration between India and Canada.
