Most Chennai Voters Yet to Return Forms

At least 90% of voters in the city and nearby areas may lose their votes
because they have not returned their filled-in voter verification forms.
Only two weeks are left to submit the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) forms,
but both the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) and Tambaram Corporation say very
few people have responded. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) say only about 10% of
voters have given back their forms.

Premkumar, a BLO from Chepauk, said he has finished giving out all the forms,
but only 100 out of 991 eligible voters in his booth have returned them.
“I am going door to door asking people for the forms. No one has filled them
yet, so I’m helping them,” he said.

Sangeetha, another BLO from Jafferkhanpet, said only 91 out of 941 eligible
voters have returned their forms. “So far, 460 names have been marked for
deletion. People are confused about whether they need to paste new photos or
submit proof if their names were missing in the 2005 voter list.
We are explaining everything to them door to door,” she said.
