Myanmar’s New President Sworn In

Min Aung Hlaing has been sworn in as the new president of Myanmar.

He first took control of the country in 2021 after removing the elected government led by Aung San Suu Kyi. Since then, his rule has been strongly controlled by the military.

The election that confirmed his position as president has been widely criticized by many groups. Several political parties, including Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy, refused to take part in the election.

Reports say that the pro-military party now holds almost all the seats in the country’s legislature, giving it strong control over the government.

Along with Min Aung Hlaing, 30 new cabinet members were also sworn in. Most of them are current or former military officers. Many are connected to the Union Solidarity and Development Party or earlier military governments.

Overall, the new government reflects continued military influence in Myanmar’s politics, with limited participation from opposition groups.
