Naidu Pushes Polavaram Projects Amid Telangana Opposition
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is making strong efforts to speed up the long-pending Polavaram Irrigation Project and the proposed Polavaram–Nallamala Sagar Link Project. These projects have faced delays for many years and are now facing strong opposition from neighbouring Telangana.
Naidu believes these projects are very important for Andhra Pradesh. He says they will help farmers by providing water for irrigation, supply drinking water to many areas, and support development in drought-affected regions of the State. According to him, completing these projects quickly is necessary for the State’s future growth.
To push the projects forward, Naidu is seeking financial support and quick approvals from the Central government. On February 10, he met Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil in New Delhi for a high-level discussion. During the meeting, he strongly requested faster clearances and additional funds to complete the works without further delay.
However, Telangana has raised objections to the projects. Leaders from Telangana have accused Andhra Pradesh of trying to take more water, which they say rightfully belongs to the upper riparian state. The issue has created tension between the two States.
Despite the resistance, Naidu has said he will continue to pursue the projects, stressing that they are essential for improving agriculture, ensuring water security, and boosting economic growth in Andhra Pradesh.
