New Draft Rules Target AI Chat Services
China’s cyber regulator on Saturday released draft rules for public feedback that aim to place stricter controls on artificial intelligence services that imitate human personalities and interact emotionally with users.
The proposed rules focus on AI products such as chatbots and virtual companions that are designed to talk like humans and build emotional connections with people. Authorities are concerned about how such technologies may influence users, especially young people.
This move highlights China’s efforts to guide the fast growth of consumer AI services by putting stronger safety, ethical and content rules in place. The government wants to ensure that AI systems do not spread harmful information, mislead users or create unhealthy emotional dependence.
Once finalized, the new rules are expected to increase oversight of AI developers and platforms, making them more responsible for how their services interact with users and impact society.
