“OMR-ECR Steel Bridge Project Gets Ready”
A new bridge project, costing ₹270 crore, will connect the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) with the East Coast Road (ECR). The bridge will start from the extension of the Pallavaram–Thoraipakkam Radial Road and will reach the ECR about 200 meters from the road.
To make way for the bridge construction, 58 families living on the banks of the Buckingham Canal in Thoraipakkam will need to be relocated. In addition, 63 families living on patta lands on the Neelankarai side will also be shifted.
The bridge, which will be made of steel, aims to improve traffic flow between OMR and ECR, two major roads in the city. Officials say the project will make travel faster and safer for commuters, while also reducing congestion on the existing routes.
Once the relocation is completed, work on the bridge is expected to begin soon, connecting Rajiv Gandhi Salai (OMR) with ECR and easing transportation in the area.
