Opposition Alleges Misuse of Agencies in Case

Several Opposition leaders on Friday (February 27, 2026) said that the discharge of AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in the Delhi excise policy case shows that investigative agencies were misused for political reasons.

Their reactions came after a Delhi court refused to take note of the chargesheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the case. The court’s decision led to the discharge of the accused leaders.

Reacting to the development, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav described it as a “moral defeat” for the BJP. He alleged that the ruling party had filed a false case against Mr. Kejriwal and other AAP leaders to target them politically. He also claimed that the BJP government had misled the people of Delhi.

Other Opposition leaders also criticized the Centre, saying the case highlights how central agencies are being used against political rivals. They demanded accountability and said such actions weaken democratic institutions.

The ruling BJP, however, has not accepted these allegations. The issue has once again sparked a political debate over the role of investigative agencies in high-profile cases.
