Pakistan Launches Airstrikes in Afghanistan

Pakistan carried out airstrikes in parts of Afghanistan early on Friday (February 27, 2026). The strikes reportedly hit areas in Kabul, Kandahar and Paktia Province.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister said the two neighbouring countries are now in an “open war” situation after months of rising tension and repeated clashes along the border.

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed that Pakistani forces carried out airstrikes in the three areas. He condemned the attacks and said they targeted locations inside Afghan territory.

The latest military action follows an incident on Thursday night (February 26, 2026), when Afghan forces reportedly attacked Pakistani border troops. That attack came after earlier airstrikes by Pakistan inside Afghanistan, leading to a cycle of retaliation between the two sides.

Tensions between the two countries have been high for several months, with both sides accusing each other of cross-border attacks and supporting militant groups. The recent strikes have further increased fears of a larger conflict in the region.

Observers say the situation remains serious, and diplomatic efforts may be needed to prevent further escalation between the two neighbours.
