Pallavaram–Thoraipakkam Road Faces Traffic Crisis

The Pallavaram–Thoraipakkam Radial Road, which was once a calm and less crowded stretch, has now become one of the busiest roads in the city. Over the last ten years, rapid growth in housing projects, offices, schools, colleges, and hospitals along this route has led to a sharp rise in traffic. Today, the road serves as an important link between GST Road and Rajiv Gandhi Salai (OMR), and thousands of vehicles use it every day.

Because of this heavy usage, commuters are facing serious problems. Traffic congestion has become a daily issue, especially during peak hours in the morning and evening. Vehicles often move slowly, and long traffic jams are common. Many road users say the situation has worsened due to poor road conditions, narrow stretches, damaged surfaces, and a lack of proper lane markings.

The radial road starts from the GST Road–Thiruneermalai junction near ‘Ponds’ in Pallavaram and runs all the way to Thoraipakkam on OMR. Along the way, it passes important locations such as Keelkattalai Lake, S. Kolathur Lake, several corporate hospitals, residential areas, and major educational institutions. These places attract a large number of people throughout the day, adding to the traffic load.

Commuters also point out that frequent digging for utility work, poorly managed intersections, and illegal parking on the roadside make the situation worse. During the monsoon, waterlogging and potholes slow down traffic even further, increasing the risk of accidents.

Residents and daily road users are now urging civic authorities and traffic police to take immediate action. They are asking for better road maintenance, proper drainage, traffic signals at key junctions, stricter parking rules, and long-term planning to manage the growing number of vehicles. Without quick intervention, they fear that congestion on the Pallavaram–Thoraipakkam Radial Road will continue to worsen, affecting daily travel and overall road safety.
