Pongal Cash Aid Reaches Over 1.86 Crore Families
A total of 1,86,23,426 rice ration card holders across the State have received a cash assistance of ₹3,000 each for the Pongal festival, Minister for Co-operation K.R. Periakaruppan said on Sunday. The money was distributed through 24,924 ration shops.
In a statement, the Minister said that the total amount disbursed so far has reached ₹5,587.02 crore. He added that the distribution process is being carried out smoothly through the public distribution system to ensure that eligible families receive the benefit on time.
Along with the cash assistance, the government has also distributed traditional Pongal gifts. Till Sunday, a total of 1,39,06,292 dhotis and sarees have been given to beneficiaries across the State.
The Minister said the Pongal assistance scheme aims to support families during the festival season and help them meet their household expenses. He added that the government is closely monitoring the distribution to ensure that all eligible ration card holders receive their benefits without any difficulty.
