RRBs’ Performance Reviewed at DFS Meeting
A review meeting to assess the performance of Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) was held in New Delhi under the chairmanship of the Secretary of the Department of Financial Services (DFS). The Ministry of Finance said the meeting focused on evaluating the work and progress of all RRBs during the financial year 2025–26 up to December 2025.
Officials noted that the banks have performed well during this period, and their efforts were appreciated. The Ministry highlighted the important role played by RRBs in providing banking services in rural and semi-urban areas across the country.
At present, 28 Regional Rural Banks are operating through more than 22,000 branches. These branches are spread across 26 States and 3 Union Territories, covering around 730 districts. This wide network helps people in remote and rural areas access banking and financial services easily.
The Ministry also said that RRBs are contributing significantly to financial inclusion. During the current financial year, the banks opened more than 45 lakh new accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. These accounts help people, especially those from low-income groups, access savings, loans, insurance, and other financial benefits.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), officials from the DFS, Chairpersons of all 28 RRBs, and representatives from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The participants discussed ways to further improve banking services and strengthen the rural banking system.
