Sai Sudharsan Downplays 300-Run Hype Before IPL 2026

Gujarat Titans batter Sai Sudharsan believes that not everything in cricket’s shortest format revolves around hitting big shots. While the focus has been on scoring over 300 runs, especially after Sunrisers Hyderabad achieved high scores in recent seasons, Sudharsan emphasizes the importance of traditional cricketing methods and consistency.

The discussion about 300-plus totals began when Sunrisers Hyderabad scored heavily two years ago. This trend gained more attention after India’s strong performances in the T20 World Cup 2026, where they scored over 250 runs in three out of four matches, including key wins in the semifinals and finals.

Sudharsan explained that while power-hitting is popular now, Gujarat Titans aim to take a different approach by focusing on deeper strategies and consistency. He mentioned that their goal is to make the team win through reliable play rather than just relying on big hits.

Unlike players from other teams who prioritize aggressive hitting, Sudharsan and captain Shubman Gill have built their success on scoring steadily at the top of the order, contributing over 1400 runs together. This approach has been crucial for their playoff campaigns.

Sudharsan also acknowledged the importance of learning from India’s World Cup-winning team. He believes it’s essential to adapt and improve by adopting versatile skills. To enhance his power game, he is working with Matthew Hayden, a two-time World Cup winner recently added to the coaching staff.

With IPL 2026 approaching, Sudharsan is focused on improving his techniques, aiming to balance traditional methods with modern strategies for success.
