SC Declines Extension for Waqf Registration Deadline

The Supreme Court today said it will not consider requests to extend the six-month
deadline for registering Waqf properties under the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.

A bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Augustine George Masih said that people who want more
time already have an option — they can approach the Waqf Tribunal and ask for relief before
December 6.

The applicants told the court that the Tribunal may not have enough time to handle all the
requests, especially because many people are facing problems registering or digitising their
Waqf properties on the UMEED portal. They argued that the deadline may end before their issues
are solved.

However, the Supreme Court said that anyone who has genuine difficulty in registering their
property on the portal can request the Tribunal to extend the deadline.
