Shubman Gill Travels Amid Injury Doubts for Test

NEW DELHI: India’s captain Shubman Gill will travel to Guwahati for the second
Test against South Africa, even though it is still uncertain if he can play
because of a neck injury, the BCCI said on Wednesday.
Gill, who is 26, got the neck injury on the second day of the first Test in
Kolkata, which India lost by 30 runs.
He had to retire hurt in the first innings and could not bat again.
He was also taken to the hospital.
The second Test will begin on November 22.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said in a statement, “Shubman is improving with
the treatment and will travel to Guwahati with the team on November 19, 2025.”
He added that the medical team will keep checking Gill’s condition, and a
decision about whether he will play in the second Test will be made later.
Since it is unlikely that Gill will play, all-rounder Nitish Reddy has been
released from the India A series against South Africa A in Rajkot.
Reddy, a batting all-rounder from Andhra, reached Kolkata on Monday evening
but did not attend the net session on Tuesday.
He has a Test century and is a right-handed batter, so he might be considered
for the playing XI in Guwahati if Gill is unable to play.
