Solar Manufacturing in India Surges Over 128%

India’s solar module manufacturing has grown more than twice compared to last year, according to Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.

In a social media post, the minister said that production of solar modules increased by 128.6% compared to 2024, reaching 144 gigawatts (GW) in 2025. In 2024, India had produced 63 GW, which means the country added 81 GW of new solar manufacturing capacity in just one year.

This remarkable growth reflects India’s strong focus on renewable energy and its commitment to boost domestic solar production. It is part of the government’s plan to expand clean energy sources, create jobs in the solar industry, and reduce the country’s reliance on imported solar modules.

Experts say that this increase in solar manufacturing will help India achieve its clean energy targets, reduce dependence on foreign imports, and strengthen its position in the global solar market. The growth also supports India’s efforts to combat climate change and move toward a sustainable energy future.

With such rapid expansion, India is now seen as one of the fastest-growing solar module producers in the world, making it a major player in the global renewable energy sector.
