South Africa Ends India’s T20 Winning Streak

India’s strong run in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup came to an end on Sunday (February 23, 2026) after a defeat against South Africa national cricket team at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

India had earlier survived a close match against the United States national cricket team, which many saw as a warning sign. But against South Africa, the team received a much bigger shock.

The Men in Blue started well with the ball. South Africa were struggling at 20 for three wickets, and it looked like India had full control of the match. However, things quickly changed during the middle overs.

David Miller and Dewald Brevis built a strong 97-run partnership that shifted the momentum. The pair batted confidently and kept the scoreboard moving with smart shots and quick running between the wickets. Their partnership gave South Africa the stability they needed after losing early wickets.

India’s bowlers could not apply pressure during the middle phase of the innings. Spinner Varun Chakaravarthy, known for his mystery deliveries, was unable to trouble the South African batters. The left-right combination of Miller and Brevis handled him carefully and avoided taking unnecessary risks.

As the match progressed, South Africa grew in confidence and finished strongly. India, despite an early advantage, failed to regain control.

The defeat ended India’s winning streak in the tournament and served as a reminder that even strong teams can face setbacks. The result also boosted South Africa’s confidence as the tournament moves into its crucial stages.
