SSC Ground Gets Floodlights Ahead of T20 World Cup
The Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) ground in Colombo has entered an exciting new chapter ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. For the first time in its 75-year history, the historic cricket venue has been equipped with floodlights, allowing it to host day-night matches.
This upgrade makes SSC one of the top international stadiums in Sri Lanka, and it is now the fifth stadium in the country capable of holding day-night international games. The installation of floodlights is expected to enhance the match experience for both players and fans, allowing games to be played under lights for the first time at this iconic ground.
During the T20 World Cup, SSC will host five matches, starting with the Pakistan vs Netherlands match on the opening day, February 7. Cricket fans are excited to see the stadium come alive at night, adding a new dimension to the tournament.
The modernization of SSC reflects Sri Lanka Cricket’s efforts to upgrade stadium facilities across the country and provide world-class venues for international cricket. Players and fans alike will now get to enjoy high-quality cricket under lights in Colombo, creating a more thrilling and vibrant atmosphere.
The floodlights are expected to be used in other future tournaments as well, making SSC a key venue for international cricket in the years to come.
