Stalin Credits ₹5,000 Advance to 1.31 Crore Women
In a surprise move ahead of the Assembly elections, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday credited ₹5,000 in advance to 1.31 crore women under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme. He said the step was taken to ensure that beneficiaries receive their financial support without any delay.
The Chief Minister claimed that “Delhi-based forces and their allies in Tamil Nadu” were trying to stop or delay the disbursement of funds before the elections. By releasing the money in advance, he said the State government had protected the interests of women and prevented any possible interruption.
Under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme, eligible women heads of families receive monthly financial assistance from the government. The scheme was introduced to support women from low-income households and improve their financial security. According to official figures, more than 1.31 crore women across Tamil Nadu are benefiting from this programme.
Mr. Stalin expressed confidence that his government would return to power in the upcoming Assembly elections. He said the government’s welfare schemes and development projects have earned the trust and support of the people. He also assured that the monthly financial assistance under the scheme would continue regularly.
The advance payment has sparked political debate, with opposition parties questioning the timing of the move. However, the ruling party defended the decision, saying it reflects the government’s strong commitment to women’s welfare.
As the elections approach, welfare schemes like the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai are expected to become a key issue in the political campaign, with parties highlighting their promises and achievements to win voter support.
