Stalin Inaugurates ₹9,000-Crore JLR Plant in Ranipet

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday (February 9, 2026) once again expressed strong confidence in the ‘Dravidian model’ of governance, saying that Tamil Nadu has developed so much that it now competes with countries across the world in attracting investments, not just with other Indian States.

He made these remarks while inaugurating the new Tata Motors Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) passenger car manufacturing plant at Panapakkam village in Ranipet district. The factory has been set up with an investment of ₹9,000 crore. During the event, the Chief Minister also flagged off the first car produced at the plant — a Range Rover Evoque — marking the start of production.

Speaking at the function, Mr. Stalin said the new plant shows the trust that global companies have in Tamil Nadu. He said many international investors choose the State because they believe the government will keep its promises and provide strong support for industries. According to him, this trust has been built through years of stable policies, good infrastructure, and investor-friendly governance.

He explained that Tamil Nadu has moved far ahead in industrial growth and economic development. “We are no longer competing with other States in India. He added that the State’s focus on education, skilled workforce, social welfare, and industrial development has helped attract large investments.

The Chief Minister also said that projects like the JLR plant will create thousands of jobs, both directly and indirectly. Local people will benefit through employment opportunities, and many small and medium businesses in the region will grow by supporting the automobile industry.

He stressed that the government would continue to work hard to bring more investments, improve infrastructure, and create a business-friendly environment. The aim, he said, is to make Tamil Nadu a global manufacturing hub and ensure economic growth that benefits all sections of society.

The new Tata Motors JLR facility is expected to strengthen the State’s position as one of India’s leading automobile manufacturing centres, often called the “Detroit of India.”
