“Stalin Lays Foundation for ECR Elevated Corridor”

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a new 13.5-kilometre-long four-lane elevated corridor from Thiruvanmiyur to Uthandi along the East Coast Road (ECR). The project will cost about ₹2,100 crore. Highways Minister E.V. Velu was also present at the event, which was held near the Marundeeswarar Temple in Thiruvanmiyur.

The elevated corridor is expected to be completed in three years. Once finished, it will help reduce heavy traffic congestion on the busy ECR stretch. Motorists will be able to travel without stopping at traffic signals connected to around 130 side roads that merge with the highway.

Even though the ECR was widened into six lanes earlier, traffic movement continues to be slow. This is because many vehicles enter the highway from nearby residential areas and interior roads throughout the day. Officials said that nearly 70,000 vehicles use this stretch daily, leading to frequent traffic jams, especially during peak hours and weekends.

The new elevated corridor aims to provide smoother and faster travel for commuters. It is also expected to reduce travel time, lower fuel consumption, and improve road safety. Authorities believe the project will greatly benefit residents, office-goers, and tourists who regularly use the East Coast Road.
