State to Launch New Renewable Energy Policy

The interim Budget announced that a New Integrated Renewable Energy Policy will be introduced soon to increase the state’s clean energy capacity.

Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu said the new policy will provide a clear and structured plan to expand renewable energy production. The aim is to meet the state’s growing electricity demand by using more sustainable and eco-friendly energy sources such as solar and wind power.

He explained that the policy will help create a long-term roadmap for increasing green energy generation while reducing dependence on conventional power sources.

The Budget has allocated ₹18,091 crore to the energy department for the financial year 2026-27. This funding is expected to support renewable energy projects, improve power infrastructure, and ensure a stable electricity supply across the state.

The government hopes that this new policy will strengthen the state’s commitment to clean energy and promote sustainable development in the coming years.
