Supreme Court Allows Wangchuk to Join Case

The Supreme Court on Monday (November 24, 2025) allowed climate activist Sonam Wangchuk to join his wife’s case.Sonam Wangchuk to join his wife, Dr. Gitanjali J. Angmo, in her petition that
challenges his detention under the National Security Act (NSA).

A Bench led by Justice Aravind Kumar heard the case. During the hearing,
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who represented the government, asked the
court for more time to reply to a new statement (rejoinder) filed by Dr. Angmo.
She was represented in court by lawyer Sarvam Ritam Khare.

With the court’s permission, Wangchuk will now be part of the case, and both he
and his wife will continue to argue that his detention under the NSA is not
justified.
