Supreme Court Clears Trial in OMC Case
On 17 February, the Supreme Court dismissed the plea filed by senior IAS officer Y. Srilakshmi seeking discharge in the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) illegal mining case. The court upheld the earlier order of the Telangana High Court, which had also rejected her request.
With this decision, the Supreme Court has cleared the way for the trial to move forward.
The case is related to alleged irregularities in the allocation of iron ore mining leases in Anantapur district of the then undivided Andhra Pradesh. It involves accusations that certain mining leases were granted improperly, benefiting the Obulapuram Mining Company, which is linked to Gali Janardhan Reddy.
The case has been ongoing for more than a decade and is considered one of the major illegal mining cases in the region. By dismissing her plea, the apex court has confirmed that the legal proceedings against Y. Srilakshmi will continue in the trial court.
